Well, finally someone invited me to go there for lunch so I did. I did not pay for my lunch, someone else did. First of all, I walk into the bathroom to find feces in the urinal. That was enough to take away my appetite from the whole lunch thing. The mess in the bathroom was unreal, paper everywhere on the floor, and the soap dispenser with hardly any soap in it. The trash can does not operate, even though it had a foot pedal and the floor was quite filthy, but the glass doors were beautiful. On to the lunch. I looked through the menu, so I figured, OK, fried rice, with chicken, and my buddy ordered their food as well. She ordered first way before me since I was trying to decide, and I ordered a bit later. I got my food first!!!, Well, I did not eat really, and waited for the food for the other person to arrive which took a while!!!!!OK. My friend rice with chicken was just that, but, oh yeah there were two little pieces of chicken in there somewhere. The rice has nothing in it except for a bit of egg, no green onions, no other veggies, nothing. Well, so much for this place. It makes me wonder, if the bathroom is in that condition, what's the kitchen like? So much for this one.

Food was alright but the service is HORRIBLE. Servers don't understand English so getting your order correct is near impossible. When we went, the experience was bad enough that I highly doubt I'll be going back unless it's for a group function, and even then - my expectations aren't going to change. Our orders were wrong, some of our drinks were wrong (They can't distinguish between when someone says "Hot Saki" or "Asahi", and then two servers "argued" about what the customer wanted, even though the waitress had it right the first time, but the waiter that came up tried telling her my buddy said Asahi), our food took forever to get there, ALL of our checks were wrong and the side room we were in had the music playing too loud so it wasn't very pleasant. The servings were small and not very filling. Yohnson T, you are an "employee" there...which means your comments on the restaurant are biased and really don't count since I'm sure you've got more ties to it than just being an employee. You moved here from LA just to work here, which leads me to believe it's probably a family investment. Waitresses having personality only matters for a small portion of the customer's experience, the rest depends on the level of service provided, the atmosphere of the restaurant and the quality of the food.

The first time I visited this place it didn't leave a lasting impression but then again it was very late and I was very tired and hungry. Needless to say, I just wanted food in my stomach and this place served the purpose. Several weeks later my coworkers and i wanted sushi so Hana Tokyo was their pick and I tagged along. I was highly impressed with the quality of the food, attentiveness of the wait staff and cleanliness of the restaurant. The Angry Dragon Roll was so good my wife and I returned for dinner and guess what I ordered......the Angry Dragon Roll!

I used to go here every few weeks, not necessarily for the food but because there are few options for sushi in Sierra Vista. Today, the waiter spilled salad dressing on and inside of my purse. Granted accidents happen but management should not have charged me for my lunch. All the manager did was apologize. That's ridiculous. So now, instead of compensating me on my cheap lunch, they lost me and my husband as regular customers. Great job management. I predict you will be closed in the next year or so.

For a small town venue, this is a great place for Japanese (/American) cuisine. While it mirrors many other mainstream sushi joints, I have to say I enjoyed eating here. There staff was friendly, their sushi specials delicious, and the atmosphere comfortable. Hana Tokyo Hibachi is attached to a nightclub and has a full hibachi set up (tables surrounding grills so they can cook in front of you). It is quickly becoming one of my favorite restaurants in this small corner of Arizona.

If you are craving sushi, I think there are only 2 places in town so your selection is quite limited. Their specials are proportionally huge and quite delicious. The Salmon nigiri is usually pretty good, but today it was off. The Ahi is OK, but doesn't even compare to cheap conveyor belt sushi from hawaii. It's rather expensive, but I guess that's what you get when you're in the middle of the desert. Oh, and the chefs and staff are not japanese. They are chinese. Yeah, go figure... chinese guys making sushi. It was a quite a shock to me. The hibachi grill is dissapointing. Wouldn't recommend it unless it's for kids. The hibachi chefs just lack enthusiasm. Ultimately the place is OK considering you are in the middle of the desert. The place is clean and well maintained. It's very spacious and can accomodate private parties and large hibachi grill parties.

My brother (from New York), and I (from San Diego) were visiting my parents in Sierra Vista and craved Japanese Food. We decided to try Hana Tokyo and were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is very nice, they spared no expense with the interior design, and we asked to sit at the hibachi dining area. The service was good, the chef was great and entertaining, and the food was tasty! It was a fun dining experience for our entire family. We would definitely come back here. This restaurant is a jewel in Sierra Vista. Sure hope you get to experience the fine dining at Hana Tokyo! Enjoy, --Ed PS: If they offer you sake...just say yes...its fun!

So my son is in training at the Army base at Fort Huachuca; decided to drive down so my wife could enjoy Mother's Day with both her sons. Essentially we had four meals to share together, and, in spite of the sense of things I had gotten from scanning Yelp, we found a significant variety of mainstream locations to choose from four our meals. We've always enjoyed the Beni Hana experience for special occasions, so Hana Tokyo became our Mother's Day dinner choice. Due to the time my son needed to return to the Base, we had to make it an early dinner, beginning around 4pm; since brunch extended past noon, we didn't get to sample the Sushi along with the hibachi-style entrées. Was kind of surprised that, even though it was early, that there weren't more people there on a holiday. The look of the place was very nice, we liked the wide tables and the stylish look of them. The food was both good, and they were priced right. And virtually any combination you would want was available, And of course there is the entertainment element of the food prep. First, it was a novelty having an Asian chef. At the BH, it's always been a latino chef! And he actually did several stunts we hadn't seen before; I won't tell you how he "put out" the traditional onion volcano. The fried rice was particularly good, as was the steak. We're still debating whether his aim was bad, or was he intentionally hitting us in the head with the zucchini he attempted to flick into our mouths? Either way, it was funny as hell and entertaining. Needless to say we enjoyed. And my son paid for dinner.

Stopped in here with a group of 6 during a work-related trip to Sierra Vista. We were immediately seated in a private room, and our drink and appetizer orders were taken. I order a small hot saki, and the table shared some edamame. First think I noted on the menu was that the prices were reasonable and there was a decent selection of sushi and cooked Japanese favorites. I like variety, so i ordered a Bento dinner and asked for substitutions in order to get the exact meal I wanted. The polite servers had no qualms over this. In the end, my dinner included Miso, salad, chicken teriyaki, chicken katsu, spicy tuna roll, shrimp dumplings, and steamed rice. Some of my coworkers opted for a hibachi-style dinner, and their order took about 10-15 minutes longer to arrive as a result. My dinner (i'll post a pic) came well-presented and represented an array of tastes and textures that I found to be enormously satisfying. The tuna roll was fresh and tasty, my chicken dishes cooked just right and possessed enough subtle differences as to not overwhelm me with chicken, and the dumplings were tender, delicate even. The price for the Bento hovered around $12.99. I left very pleased and am, in fact, am considering stopping in again before I leave in a week.

If you're in Sierra Vista AZ and are craving sushi/japenese food this is the place for you. I wasn't expecting much coming here but to my suprise the sushi was very tasty. However, it does cost an arm and a leg to get full. The decor is very updated. The service is very slow especially when busy.

Omigosh- So good! The miso soup, the salad, the sushi, the tempura, the yakisoba, the ice cream, not to mention the service! FABULOUS! Completely worth the extra few dollars. Great for two, the whole family, or a party! Plus, a new nightclub is next door.

I am a long time sushi fan and over the years have turned 100% vegetarian. It's difficult to get good sushi, yet good vegetarian sushi -but this place rocks! Not only was there vegetarian rolls on the menu, but they were more than happy to fulfill the many requests we had for some creative rolls we suggested to them. The order was quick, fresh, delicious and served with a smile. Many sushi places we've been to have not been interested in creating nice sushi for vegetarians like us. We appreciate having them nearby. It's elegant and the lighting is on the darker side which I find very relaxing. The only drawback for us was the TV's on the wall. They do not add to the atmosphere in a positive way, especially if you do not watch it. When we asked them to turn one off, they suggested we sit in the private room, which we did, and that turned it into a lovely, romantic dinner for two! We'll be back often. It is the nicest place in Sierra Vista, AZ to be sure.

Because I read/heard some less than stellar reviews for this restaurant, I felt extra compelled to write about some of its favorable points. I'm glad to read here that others have had good experiences at Hana Tokyo too. In Sierra Vista, the rumor has been going around for years that we're getting an Olive Garden or a Red Lobster. It's always great to have choices, so I don't count myself apart from the hopefuls. However, speaking as someone who's worked for some our small businesses that have come and gone over the years, I hope people remember to support and treasure some of the remarkable local establishments. Could you imagine what Sierra Vista would be like without a Café Ole? A Mesquite Tree? A Daisy Mae's? To Chris S.: Japanese portions are generally smaller; at least, American portions are incredibly large (a point to consider). Also, Japanese meals traditionally consist of a few different dishes in small amounts: pickles, rice, a few bites of this or that. The staff at the restaurant could be from any Asian country, but if they are from Japan, they come from a culture where people are often more reserved (just another point to consider). I understand you were disappointed based on what you wrote, but I just hope you are merciful enough to reconsider. I've eaten at Hana Tokyo on a couple of occasions now. Admittedly, the first time my boyfriend and I went, the waitress got something in our order incorrect. She mistook my order for a Sapporo as a small carafe of sake, which she graciously gave us free of charge when she realized her error. We ordered gyoza as an appetizer along with several rolls of sushi with a smattering of sashimi and sampled the miso soup. The miso soup was fine (although I like Tanuki's better), the gyoza was good, and the sushi/sashimi were excellent. The menu was well-made, there was a great variety of choices, and despite some small misunderstandings, the service was wonderful and the food was delicious and well-presented. I also give the restaurant props for being clean and having simple and elegant décor along with comfy chairs. What would be even better would be if they can create some more separation in the main dining area with screens, plants, or even a pretty aquarium so diners are not lumped in cafeteria-style smack down the middle. The only thing I found truly bothersome was how loud the hibachi grill tables were, although that was half the fun for the people sitting around them. Also, the copious amounts of sake that were being shot from the hibachi chef's squirt bottles to receptive diners around the perimeters of the tables concerned me a bit: I think there were some minors sitting around the table who witnessed this (before I get anyone in trouble, I am NOT implying minors were being served alcohol). Additionally, because there are hibachi grills, it would be cool if Hana Tokyo installed some okonomiyaki tables if they stick around and decide to expand. In all, I agree with the majority of reviews here and strongly urge you to give this restaurant a shot if you're wondering where to eat out tonight. I lived in Japan for almost a year and when I got back, I was so tired of Japanese food I wasn't sure when the mood would strike for it again. I'm glad it did and that we tried this place. Sierra Vista still has its places of tradition and I hope they will endure. I also hope we give businesses that are starting out a fair chance as well. To circle back to my days in food service, I will always remember the fits people used to throw over things like how many stripes of mustard you put on their sandwich and other things that most of the time, you can forgive and let go. Sometimes complaints are more a power-trip thing, or mistakes result from simple misunderstandings. Granted, you understandably want to get good food and good service for what you pay for, but I'll bet my bottom dollar that you wont be disappointed if you try Hana Tokyo. So now I wonder when Sierra Vista will get a great Indian food place. We have people who are from all over the world here and a community of people who have travelled all over the world (like those in the Services). It would be wonderful to have more places to reflect that and to bring people together through something we all know and love - GOOD FOOD!

The sushi is consistently excellent. The hibachi food is also great although the chefs' performances on hibachi can be inconsistent. The table service has always been very good. The service at the hibachi tables can be touch and go but it is usually very good. I go here regularly and because of that, any service inconsistencies are overcome by the great food and the fact that I'm familiar enough with the staff to chase them down for what I need. I recommend the hibachi table steak, chicken and shrimp as well as the Iso Fantastic roll, the Angel Roll and the Fancy Salmon roll that is deep fried and just awesomely delicious.

The owners are super nice and treat you like family. The sushi is the freshest anywhere in Arizona! Very clean atmosphere....little sparse but the food makes up for it. The chef is very creative! By far the best sushi in the area!

There are only two sushi restaurants here in Sierra Vista. This is the better of the two in my opinion mainly because of cost and freshness IMO. Lunch time offers great lunch-time specials particularly the bento box. For a decent price you'll be able to have a very satisfying lunch while being able to sample a variety of items off the menu (through the various bento box combos). Hana Tokyo also has the Benihana style Hibachi where guests sit around an open grill and a chef treats you to a dinner and show. It's a very exciting experience if you haven't seen one before. The dinner combo that comes with it is very reasonably-priced and tastes wonderful. The sushi here is fresh. I LOVE salmon, yellowtail, and mackeral and Hana Tokyo has picked out the right supplier. The flavors of the fish are very tasty and clean. COST: 4/5 Expect the price to be a little higher than usual but hey it's because it's Sushi AND because it's down here in Sierra Vista. SERVICE: 5/5 The staff and chefs are very personable and genuinely care for their patrons. DECOR/AMBIANCE: 5/5 Very clean and quiet. Lighting is nominal and seating is plentiful. They have private "booths" or rooms available for more intimate sessions with friends, family, or significant other.

Service 3 Food 2.5 Price 2.5 Ambiance 3 We had the bento box and it was not worth the price. The sushi roll was of minced meat, hopefully tuna. The miso soup was different for the miso soups that I have had. I think this restaurant tries too hard to be too many things with private dinning areas, hibachi and regular menu.

The place was really cozy and nice. We got there just before 7pm on a Wednesday night and there was not a lot of people so we were seated right away. We decided to have Hibachi. (For those of you who don't know, it's when they cook your food in front of you. ) We ordered the salmon tartare for appetizer and it was so good! Then I had the Steak Hibachi with fried rice. Salad and soup were included as well as some stir fry veggies. Our cook was really funny and he was so entertaining while cooking our food. Our waitress was also nice and she kept checking on us. It was a bit pricey but I would come back here if I ever returned to town.

Awesome restaurant! The food and service is great. We went 2 days in a row and had a blast! Ask for DK as your chef its worth the wait. I will dine here every time I come to AZ!

I really like this place. It's clean, the service is excellent, and the owners are friendly. The only criticism I have is the Miso soup. It always tastes watered down or they are using a very light miso paste. Other than that, the sushi is outstanding and no complaints on the hibachi either. Considering what Sierra Vista has to offer, this place brings some class to this town.

Best sushi in town! Lovely atmosphere, very clean and fast service. The food is delicious, and really well presented. We highly recommend the Volcano and Las Vegas Rolls!

A year ago when we first tried this Japanese restaurant it was decent and the chef was quite fun with his show. Since then we have been there at least once a month and the chef and food were never all good or all bad. Tonight though we had the worst meal ever and WILL NOT be back. They were busy with all hibachi grills taken so we decided to sit at a table. We got our soup and salad immediately and the waitress was very polite. We then waited more than 40 minutes for our food. The filet mignon I ordered rare to medium rare was well done and COLD. The scallops I ordered were also cold. Manager was called but all he offered were excuses and still charged us full price for the meal. So I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone!

Food was exceptionally decent. There were very little interaction between the chef and customers.

I've eaten here several times when I come to SV on travel. They are always consistent. Staff is very friendly and will offer recommendations. The ingredients always look fresh. There menu is huge so there is plenty of variety. When I go with coworkers we order several things off the menu & eat family style. I always leave stuffed. Today I had dinner bento c & there is more good then I can eat. Very big restaurant so this would be great for groups

  • Ramal M.

I came with a group of seven and the server seemed flustered and confused. It took an hour from the time we entered the door until we ate. Our group had to remind the waiter about our a la cart orders over and over again. I'm posting this before eating so stay tuned!

Great food and good prices. We have eaten here several times and always leave happy. Great sushi. They have a large list of sushi rolls. The Habachi Grill is always great too. Couple this with a nice hot saki and you are in for a treat!

I have eaten sushi all over the US and I was amazed by this place. Whenever I come to Sierra Vista I make it a point to stop by for some amazing sushi. You will never get bored because the rolls are so different but everything taste great! If you don't like the sushi you won't be disappointed by the food or hibachi. My favorite place to eat in Sierra Vista. Go tonight!!

  • Robin P.

Love love love! The sushi here is top rate and the chef that's served us was polite and very friendly. I highly recommend the rock and roll if you are a salmon lover, I don't like avacado so I always ask none on mine. YummOH! My hubbie had angry dragon and scorpion rolls and they were HUGE....BRING FRIENDS! And they stay open past 9.....very rare in sierra vista! Is it date night yet.....I need cold house sake and more rock and rolls!

This place a little oasis in the southern Arizona dessert! I came for the sushi today am not at all disappointed. I had the hibachi with a group a few days ago and was impressed with the selection, service, and flavor! The sushi choices are wonderful. I was apprehensive about the yellowtail that is part of the tri-color sushi, but it along with the salmon and tuna was magnificent! I appreciated the extras, too: a plate of crab meat as an appetizer and an orange after the sushi. And Maria took great care if me at the sushi bar. She recommended the green tea fried ice cream (I know, right?!), which was the perfect end to the meal. Great experience! I will definitely come back!

This place just gets better everytime I go. I'm always at the sushi bar and I don't like to admit that they do serve better tasting sushi over Tanukis as I'm a fan of both places. Sushi is just better here. Tanukis has the better cooked meals by far.

I ate at Hana ' s recently with some coworkers. I had a lunch special with salmon roll and spicy tuna roll. I found the food very delicious and server very attentive and professional. I like the peaceful, quite atmosphere and prices were reasonable. I'll return!

This Restaurant seems like a wonderful place to enjoy dinner at first. Be careful to know exactly what you are ordering ahead of time because the manager there is very impulsive and angry as a person in general. He will, under no circumstances, change your order after the food is brought to your table even if you have not touched your food or ordered it by accident thinking it was another entree. He claims "you ordered it now pay for it. I do not care about your customer satisfaction." Clearly this business does not run on customer satisfaction. It runs on something else. Take care

I used to love this place, hence the great review before. They have gone down hill. The food may still be great, but I wouldn't know. Haven't made it that far. Tonight we sat for 20 minutes to get our order taken... We ended up just walking out. The staff is awful... Just plain awful! Last time I had a soup spilled on me. Her response? " wooops". NOT COOL. The time before that our waitress couldn't explain anything about the food to me. Tonight we had a staff member admit that their servers were " all retarded". It's a disgrace and sad that they're getting lazy w their staff. It's going to be the cause of their failure. Done w this place!

The filet mignon was fantastic! I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and the sakibomb! Yum yum sauce was also very good!! I'll be back before I leave town.

We went here in a large group. The server had trouble getting everyone's order straight, but he was friendly about it. The food was sub-par. There are so many other Sushi places out there that are far better. The hibachi cook was entertaining but lack luster. The food that came from the hibachi was nothing special-fried rice with shrimp/chicken. Not one person in the party commented on it. The prices for this are really too much- near the $20 range for something I can cook at home cheaply...I don't build an onion tower and blow a train whistle, but it's still better when I do it. We got the Sashimi and Sushi combo ($23!) which was not worth it. The sashimi was very nice, but the roll was just so-so. On Happy Hour we got a roll super cheap (for something like $3)- that was much better than the one that came with the meal. They do have an all day, every day Happy Hour, which is alright. Grab food from here, don't bother with the menu. The beer of the week is a good deal and they offer a good pint price. Overall though, I would not go back, nor would I suggest this place to someone. Find something better...it won't be hard.

I'm new in town & wanted to try out the various sushi spots. As my top choice was closed today (another place had been recommended to me), I figured I'd give this a shot since the reviews were so good. I have to say, I'm sadly disappointed. The sushi is overpriced & really bland. I don't think I'll be coming back anytime soon. It wasn't terrible, just bland & sub-par in my book. I'm used to NY & CA sushi which are both so flavorful. Really disappointed.....

Hana Tokyo is the only habachi that I know of in Sierra Vista. They also have a full service sushi bar. I would recommend both the habachi and the sushi. The soup and salad starters at the habachi are about on par with any other I've experienced. They have a wide variety of sushi. The only draw back to this place is the ambiance. For some reason there's a dance club on the other side of the restaraunt. You definately don't get the same cultural warm and fuzzy here that you get at other Japaneese steak houses. However, if you're after a tasty meal, Hana Tokyo is a great place to go.

Another great meal. Portions are filling. Best sushi around. Prices are reasonable and the service is fast as well as friendly

Came here for lunch and sat at the bar. It's in a strip mall type location, but the inside is beautifully modern and decorated well. Very talented gentlemen working behind the bar and it was enjoyable to watch their knife skills. I had a sushi sampler type plate and the fish was very fresh. The accompanying sauce was perfect with it as well. I'm going to bring my husband here for dinner, even thought he's not a sushi fan, they do have teriyaki options and a wide variety on their menu to pretty much please anyone. Also, fab service too!

My fiancé had the bento dinner A, which was huge and delicious. I had the spicy dragon maki roll. It was amazing. I usually can't finish a roll because they're so rich, but it was so good that I ate past my fullness. Next time I think we'll share the bento box, just because it's a great mix of items. It even comes with a basic sushi roll. The soup and salad that came with we're not very good but it's worth the price without those starters. The server was on top of things, although a little short with us. We didn't mind because everything else was good.

Have been to Hana Tokyo at least a couple dozen times. Eating in the side rooms is a nice touch and more fun/private for a small group. I prefer a table or a booth rather than sitting around the hibachi - too hard to speak with friends when someone is shooting sake at your face. Of course, some people like that sort of thing. The sushi rolls are always good and I like the lunch and dinner bento boxes. I would have given it five stars but I had one order of tempura that was burned and a friend had a bowl of seafood and vegetable udon soup that was full of chicken strips. I can see that causing problems. The restaurant is very popular and does a good business with lots of repeat customers. I think the food is reasonably priced. If there were four and a half stars, I'd award them.

  • Jen W.

The sushi was ok. The service a little slow and not really that great. The ambiance was ... Eh. I would go here again only because it is one of the only places to go for sushi in sierra vista. It is also overly priced.

Ok, just went to this place last night (a Sunday night - pretty empty) to use our recently purchased groupon. I had pretty high expectations from reviews on here plus people I work with raving about it. On the positive side I will say that the hibachi chef (idk what they're called) was really awesome. He was super friendly, very generous with the sake, and made the experience a good one and he was the best part of this restaurant! Where the experience failed started with the wait staff. After being seated for about 10 minutes someone finally brought us a high chair. About 5 minutes later someone came to take our drink orders. We were a fairly large group and one couple asked to order their appetizer at the same time. The waitress said no and that she'd come back in a minute. About 5 minutes later, a different lady came out to take our drink orders (again). We told her we had ordered drinks already and asked if she could take our appetizer and meal order. Again, we were told no. While taking our order, she asked each person 'fried rice, right?', but failed to mention it was an additional $2. After that, thinks were pretty normal for a hibachi joint. The food was nothing spectacular - just average. In past experiences, places like this give you way more rice than you'd expect, this place gave very little. Point being, for the price you are paying, you will be disappointed. Now to the Groupon/price. We paid $40 for a dinner for 2. That included an alcoholic beverage (with a price cap), appetizer, 2 meals and ice cream. When we received our bill (taxes and gratuity) it was for an additional $20. So we paid $60 for our mediocre meal. I'm fairly certain had we not purchased the groupon, we would have spent less money, however, with their hidden costs, it's hard to tell.

We have eaten here several times since we moved to SV. We take everyone that is new here to Hana Tokyo. Always friendly staff and the sushi is phenomenal! Only negative I'd say is every time we go it is never crowded, not sure if we always hit the low times, or if it is just never crowded. Hibachi food is average priced and they have cooked for my husband and I only on several occasions. In my experience, most hibachi places make you wait until someone shows up.

So this is another review I've been meaning to update. And much like my feelings for Sophia's vs. Trattoria, the same could be said for my opinion of Hana's vs. Tanuki. I'll be posting my full review of Tanuki in just a little bit. But this will be quicker, so I wanted to take care of this first. In a nutshell, Hana's is still a very good Japanese restaurant. But now that I have sampled a lot more Japanese food, including the other local place, I have to revise my opinion of Hana's down just slightly. I would say Hana's is much more of a "mainstream" type of restaurant. And if you want teppenyaki, this is the only place to go. The food is good and menu is large and varied. But overall it is just not AS good as other options that are available. I have been trying to make an effort to reserve my five-star ratings for either the best of the best, or the best in the area. So while Hana's is a good choice and will satisfy your Japanese needs, there is a better choice. I'll get to that in a bit. :)

My son asked the Hibachi chef..."are you a ninja?" We always have a good time at Hana. The staff are very friendly and the food is always good. A little pricey, but worth it.

This place was just okay for me. The inside is really nice and clean which I liked. The waiter I had was quite awkward and kept rushing us to finish up and pay, even though the place was mostly empty. They have an excellent spider roll, but I think $11 is way too much for 5 rolls. Their spicy tuna has tempura in it, which they need to advertise. I was not expecting the crunch. Of all the places I have tried spicy tuna, this place was my least favorite, because it tasted like a mouthful of mayonnaise. No spice at all. I was not a fan. I think in the future I will be getting my sushi at Tanuki. I can't speak for Hana Tokyo's Hibachi menu because we went there today just for sushi. I would go back in the future to try the hibachi side of it.

If I could give it no stars I would. I was craving a rainbow roll and mixed tempura so I called them to make an order. The man who answered was rude and told me that they didn't have mixed tempura and had never heard of it before. I decided to just order the roll. When I went to pick it up I was surprised that the roll was 13 dollars and was so small. I expected the taste to be amazing but it just an average roll. The rolls that are made at FRYS are bigger, taste better, and cost less. I'll never be back, 13 dollars for a crappy roll and rude service isn't worth it. (Btw, they do sell mixed tempura, he didn't know)

Tried this place for the first time yesterday and I am completely awed! I just actually ordered an Angry Dragon Roll for Dinner tonight! It's THAT good! My husband and I were surprised at how large the rolls were and how FRESH they tasted. I also tried their Hibachi Steak and Shrimp for Lunch and I thought it was good. The fried rice and veggies served for sides were also very flavorful and delicious. Overall, I was COMPLETELY satisfied w/my food. It is a little pricey but I guess that goes w/eating at a NEW and CLEAN restaurant. And, our server was very nice. :) My family and I will definitely eat and order from here again. :)

They are nice people. The food itself goes from good to meh depending on which chef you get. Lunch is cheaper, but you can easily go over $15. I'm not a sushi guy because I can't eat raw meats. But my friends seem to enjoy the dragon roll. Service is a little slow, the show is what you get at many other restaurants, but with a little less excitement. I certainly wouldn't say no if a friend invited me or if I just HAD to have Japanese. But this place isn't a must, not even for Sierra Vista.

I will admit that I thought Hana Tokyo was a front for some contraband smuggling operation. Why else would you find a completely elegant, well-staffed and sumptuously decorated sushi bar in the middle-of-nowhere southern Arizona desert? This restaurant would not seem out of place in NY/LA/San Diego but here it is just bananas. We arrived for in time to catch the tail end of lunch. Freshly caught sushi chunks landed on my plate, delivered by a slew of sweet servers and sushi chefs. The prices at lunch were so low I was embarrassed. I ordered too much food and ended up taking half of it with me. I couldn't resist trying three different things on the menu. I still remember the crispity crunch of the veggie tempura and the sweetness of the tuna. I wish that Hana Tokyo was here, instead of down a dirty old highway south of Tucson.

I'm a huge sushi fan and I love Hana Tokyo. The yellow tail is probably my favorite - it's so very fresh! The crab salad is delicious, too. I love the atmosphere and the chefs and servers are always very friendly. Been there for lunch and dinner, thoroughly enjoying both.

Let me start by saying, I do not eat raw sushi. And until trying some of the cooked sushi offering here I did not like sushi at all even after trying cooked variations elsewhere. I am absolutely addicted to the Filet Mignon roll, It is very very good and converted me, The nonconvertible. I have since tried other sushi rolls that they have created and all are fantastic. My son loves the little binto box meals they provide for him and service is always stellar. The staff go above and beyond to cater to your needs with true courtesy. Hana Tokyo is one of the few Gems located in Sierra Vista.

Good food overall. Sushi is good and the fried rice is pretty good. For a small place like Sierra vista I would recommend this place. It's never a long wait and the food is made at a decent time. I wish the rice was stickier. But overall yumm

The food here is average teppanyaki fare. Slightly pricey, but not bad food for Sierra Vista. Word of advice, though... the sake bombs are downright lethal here. Pace yourself, or you'll wake up with puke on your shirt, blood on your pants, two hundred dollars missing from your bank account and a hang-over that could drop a rhino. Trust me.

  • Courtney K.

Really good! Sushi was OK, but the hibachi was so fun. They didn't push food onto the plates too quickly so you could enjoy the food. They spray sake into the adults mouths...weird but fun.

This one's bordering on two stars-and it's not because of the atmosphere or service which is great, especially for this area. My main issue is the quality of food for the price. I visited for a working lunch-okay, so I don't want a $15-$20 lunch, great, I find the lunch menu on the back. I can deal with $9 for a lunch special. Apparently I didn't read the fine print, because in addition to the $9 for my Hibachi steak, is $2 extra for fried rice...and somehow lunch becomes over $15 with my soda. What the hell?! Seriously? It wasn't worth it Yes, it was a working lunch so I was hardly able to pay attention, but wow! For that price there are other places I'd rather go.

We were here at Fort Huachuca when it opened and it was awesome!!! We left the area for 2 years, came back and still love it! I would recommend this place to anyone! My favorite is the salmon and scallops. Their sushi is always phenomenal!! My husband loves the steak and scallops. Saki is a must!

My job recently need a lot of on the job training, means travel and more travel. Fortunately for me, I love food and being that mobile, sometime I found a gem in the middle of nowhere. This restaurant is some of the gem I've encountered so far. All those sashimis are fresh and delicious, the teppan chef are fun and absolutely a blast when they are cooking. Our waiter John are fun to talk to and very attentive. Make sure to look for him. From our conversation with him, we found out that like some other restaurant that is out of california they live on tips and tips alone. Sad huh! But then be courteous, if the service is good, tip them well. Well, if I ever come across this place again in the near future, I make sure I stop by and enjoy my little piece of happiness. LOL

Best place to eat (food quality wise) in Sierra Vista. Binto boxes are a great deal..and if you can, get Denise as your server..she works hard and is fantastic!

I have to say that Sierra Vista was the last place I'd expect to find a place like this. It's a huge, well appointed Japanese restaurant with sushi bar, regular tables, private room and hibachi tables. We sat at a hibachi table and had a great time. The cook was very entertaining and produced a great meal. The sushi was also excellent. The only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is due to the service. The waitress really didn't have a clue. She forgot drinks and food, brought stuff to the wrong people and was generally inept. This restaurant would do well in someplace like LA or San Diego and

Pricey. Sat at the hibachi grill across from a large birthday party-very noisy. The chef had a few standard tricks, but the food was not very good. Way too much soy. After serving us he hung around and rudely interupted our conversation. Fortunately, our friends were treating, but I would not consider paying my own way there.

Pros: Great presentation on preparation of the food. Great location for a large group. Cons: Over-priced, mediocre food.

    (2)

Looks good up front, but dirty in the back, rude servers (not always to your face), and run by a racist Chinese family. Mediocre food, but not worth the price.

Like your sushi fresh, and raw? This is the place for you! With very little options for sushi in town, their selection of raw fish is surprisingly impressive. I always sit at the bar, and have a nice chat with the chefs in choppy English. This is the only place in town that carries white tuna, and uni. Both melt in your mouth like butter. I sometimes dine here with people who don't eat raw fish, so I have tried many of their other rolls as well. Because most of these chefs have worked at other sushi restaurants from all over the country, their rolls are actually pretty creative. I have been saving up for the Sierra Vista roll which incorporates lobster among other ingredients.

The food was decent (4 stars) , but the one star rating given is for one particular waiter that my sister and I had tonight. After splitting our bill, I told her that I would pay for tip for both of us, so I put the tip down on my bill, and told her to not put any down on her's. Long story short, the waiter (Chinese guy) ran out after a few mins while we were still chatting in the parking lot, and proceeded to SCREAM (I kid you not!! He was SO forceful!) at my sister for leaving no tip. He never calmed down enough (and probably english sucked so bad that he wouldn't understand) to let my sister explain that my tip was to cover for both of our checks. In order to stop him from the consistent verbally abusing my sister, I told him to STOP IT and proceeded to hand him another $2 to shut him up. After taking the money, he said "Thank you" and went back into the restaurant. SERIOUSLY?!?! He walked away with fucking 20% of tip total. What I SHOULD HAVE done was take the check back, written "0" for tip, and then told him to shove it and that we will never come back here. This was my second time eating here, and due to this terrible waiter, I will NEVER come back here again. Beware, people, of this waiter (I should've asked for his name *derh*). He will rain on your parade, no joke.

The best sushi in town i would say. The prices are good and the food is delicious. The onlyproblem is that there isnt a wide variety of different japanese food and that they rush you when you are still looking at the menu. But other than that, the sushi is freakin awesome and yummy. I will always come here when im around the area. (:

Ok so I have gone here a lot over the past few years or when I have had the misfortune of being in Sierra Vista and usually they get my order in the ball park with a decent price......HOWEVER.... today they are not even in the same state as the ball park! Really really bad with really bad over charge! I ordered 1-dragon roll $11.50, 1-tuna sushi $2.25, 1-salmon $2.25 and was charged $22.30. Now basic math says that is not right. It was grossly expensive! ha So take Chris S. advise and mine and stay clear of the place!

Love this place. The Angel roll is phenomenal. The veriety of rolls and food available is extraordinary considering how far away from the ocean, or anything resembling asia, we are. You won't be disappointed. They also have a wide array of flavored sakes.

A great find in a small town.. Shockingly amazing for Sierra Vista, a town that seems to be able to hold on to only one or two non chain restaurants. good food and atmosphere to boot.

Our dinner experience last night was disappointing. Our orders were taken quickly but I think our server was new or in training because the manager was always hovering over him and other servers kept checking on us during our meal. It got to be annoying after awhile. Our sushi and sashimi plates arrived promptly within 10 mins of ordering them. My husband's sushi was dry, like it wasn't fresh or had been sitting around for awhile. But my sashimi tasted fresh and the presentation was beautiful. While the wait staff seemed to be on the ball, we felt rushed. They kept hovering during our meal and when I took the last bite of sashimi, my plate was immediately taken away. I usually like to eat the cucumbers and shredded carrots on my plate but didn't get a chance to last night. Our check was brought to the table before my husband was finished. We weren't asked if we wanted anything else. And while hubby was still eating his last piece of sushi, a waiter came by and reached in to pick up his plate. When my husband protested that he wasn't done, the waiter did apologize and backed away. There were at least 7 empty tables and no other diners waiting so I don't understand the rush to clear our table. Frankly, I didn't see that happening to other diners around us. This is our second time that we've eaten here. We ate here once when they first opened. Our experience then wasn't great either but we figured they needed more time to work out the kinks. I think they need to work on making the customer feel welcome. The place is beautifully furnished and it looks really classy but last night, I felt like they wanted us to hurry up and eat and get out. It wasn't a fun or relaxing place to eat. After last night's experience, my husband declared that he'd rather not come back.

By far, this was my favorite restaurant in Sierra Vista :) The food was always good. If you want something intimate, you can sit at a table, if you're feeling social make your way to the little sushi bar & if you want to have fun there are the hibachi grills. If you sit at the hibachi grills be prepared because most of the chef's will squirt Saki at you (most of it at your mouth, lol). I've tried all 3 & enjoyed them thoroughly. Although all of their food is good, I fell in LOVE with their Valentines Day special, the VALENTINES DAY ROLL (insert sigh here). It was dreamy. Even after Valentines Day I asked for it & if they had the ingredients they were kind enough to make it special for me. The service was a little hit or miss. From time to time you got a server who was off their game, but it was rare.

I've been to this place a couple times, but it's been a while. I think I haven't decided to go back because last time I was there I ordered a Scorpion Sushi roll and I walked away extremely bloated. The roll and other food tasted excellent, the atmosphere is very nice, and I would usually recommend a place like this, and do, but be careful of what you order. What I ordered came in abundance, so I think it was worth the money. I enjoyed eating in their little personal rooms. At this point I'm hesitant to go back due to feeling so uncomfortable. This place would probably accept kids as they have a teppanyaki side where people can sit around and watch the chef dazzle them. But I don't know too many young kids that care for this sort of stuff. I really like this place and would recommend it, but once again, beware of what you eat. Sorry I can't tell you what to avoid, it's just a matter of trial and error.

The sushi at Hana was pricey, however, if you want good quality you have to pay for it. That is to be expected at any reputable sushi restaurant. The Tekka Don bowl was more of a plate with a deep depression in the center. (Completely different than any sushi restaurant I have been to.) It's the service that made me give Hana a disapproval rating: The waitress sat the 6 of us in one of their 8 person rooms and then would hover just outside the curtain...annoying. They forced a 15% gratuity on our bill when in all other restaurants you need a party of 8 before a gratuity fee kicks in. As I approached the cashier at the front to pay, I was about to swipe my card through the terminal and he snatched my card from my hand and did it himself

We visited this restaurant shortly after being stationed here at Fort Huachuca. We were a little hesitant, but soon realized how great this restaurant really is for the community. A lot of people are commenting on the wait staff hovering over them, etc. But, I can tell you that has been the norm for us from California all the way over to Maryland/DC. We thought the food was wonderful. We have visited a few times. We have had the bento dinner boxes as well as the sashimi. It is a good little restaurant and I would recommend it to anyone visiting or living in this remote area.

A great place for lunch & dinner. The hibachi grill is great, but I usually order the maki tuna platter (only $12). It's not the greatest sushi place I've been too, but it's a nice atmosphere & I like the miso soup/salad too. :O) & now that the bar is open (Saki's lounge)- - it's more lively than I've noticed in the past.

Normal dining room (not hibachi) - I had the tan katsu with some ala carte sushi (Eel and Mackerel). Miso soup was alright, the salad was the standard iceberg lettuce slathered in ginger dressing. The katsu was pretty good, but it's hard to mess up frying some pork in panko crumbs... The sushi was just alright... Good for Sierra Vista? Yes. Rivaling anything on the West Coast? Not a chance. Their house sake (hot) was not very good. Service was good.

I'll go to Hana's for any reason, but a group going away is an especially compelling opportunity to ham it up and gather 'round the Hibachi table for an extra festive time. The chef - sorry, didn't catch the name, was ready to entertain, performing the usual flipping and flying of utensils and food. He had what looked like a white plastic ketchup bottle, but it was full of FUN, and by that I mean Sake'! He'd squirt it into any willing, open mouth... yeah, I felt totally self-conscious with my mouth open like a baby bird beggin' for worms, but after a few generous rounds, all vanity melted away! The food was delicious, as usual, but I will def be back to party down 'round the Hibachi grill!!!

    (5)
  • Michael T.

Pros:The hibachi grill service is quite good with tasty steaks and very good seafood. Kids enjoy the spectacle and the adults get very good food. Cons: Service varies wildly depending on the Chef/waiter combo you get and I can not recommend the sushi as anything but ok. Skip the salad (they seem to freeze it).

Hana Tokyo is a unique restaurant within Sierra Vista. From the minute you walk in, you know that you're in for a real treat. The atmosphere is classic, with nice Japanese accents. On the left side are a handful of curtained off rooms. The main room has standalone tables and booths. In the back are two hibachi tables, each with two separate food preparation areas. There is also a separate sushi bar at the end of a full bar. While good atmosphere is a wonderful sensory appetizer, as a single mother, it is equally important to have attentive, patient service. Tonight, I took my boyfriend and two children for a little something different, having patronized all the local chains to death. We arrived around 5:30 and were promptly seated at the habachi table, as per my reservation request. The staff was polite, attentive and did not seem at all perturbed by the presence of children. Much to my daughter's delight, the habachi chef talked to her and interacted with the entire table. My son and boyfriend egged me on to have a 'saki bomb', a long shot from the chef's saki bottle. It was good saki for cooking! And of the four of us, only my son was able to catch the flying piece of zucchini the chef tossed at each tablemate. My boyfriend ordered the Sushi Deluxe platter with 9 pieces of sashimi and a tuna roll. My son and I had chicken hibachi, while my daughter had the kids' shrimp hibachi. Everything was delicious and perfect!! She has fried cheesecake for dessert, and he had fried vanilla ice cream, post-dinner. Also, I must point out that we never had an empty glass either. I would definitely recommend Hana Tokyo to families, if you go early enough (and possibly during the week) to beat the crowds, as it can get a little more chaotic (and harder to get the habachi tables). Yes, this restaurant is expensive. The four of us ran an $82 bill, and the service was so great, I gave them a $18 tip (though that is just over the customary 20%). I did not encounter the language barrier some of the other reviewers ran into, but it was relatively quiet in the restaurant while we were there. We plan on going again in the future!

I really want to like this place because it is one of the nicer places inside around town and have been probably 5 times. Also because of the lack of places to chose where we live. Went back with an open mind and a craving for sushi. I had the spicy tuna hand roll and it literally had the taste and texture of Starkist tuna out of a can mixed up with some mayo and plopped on a roll of seaweed. Accompanied that mess with the sushi/sashimi platter and the fish was just not fresh. Not good by any standards. I will not go back until I forget how bad it is at minimum.
